Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger Demands Action On Postal Delays
DUNDALK, Md. (WJZ) -- If you've been having trouble getting your mail, you're not alone.
Late mail has been an issue since the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic, especially in Maryland's second district.
In Dundalk, the frustration is growing as postal problems keep popping up.
"Some stuff says it's delivered, it's not delivered," Darryl Welsh, of Dundalk, said.
Neighbors, like Welsh, said they've been dealing with long lines at the post office and delivery days.
"People get frustrated with them, they're here looking for their packages," Welsh said.
Welsh isn't alone. Local and state leaders said they've received hundreds of complaints from people about postal problems.
"We're hearing all problems, we're not hearing any solutions," Delegate Ric Metzgar said.
At a press conference Thursday, Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger said the issue goes beyond COVID-19 and wants to see more delivery drivers assigned to Baltimore County
"We're coming together as a team to go to the top and say, you have to get us the management here, you have to get us the resources here, there's no reason why this problem should continue on and on," Ruppersberger said.
In a statement to WJZ, the U.S. Postal Service said they recognize consistency is paramount to their customers and they've, "taken immediate steps to increase operational efficiency."
Welsh said he hopes they find a solution fast
"Whatever it takes to straighten this out," he said. "You got to do it, this can't go on. This is insane."
