Congress Decides To Continue NSA Phone Spying Program
WASHINGTON (WJZ)—Congress decides to continue a NSA phone spying program in a controversial vote Wednesday night on Capitol Hill.
The House of Representatives voted down a proposed amendment that would have significantly slashed the program.
The vote on the measure was 217 to 205.
Last month, former NSA contractor Eric Snowden revealed that the spy agency was collecting hundreds of millions of Americans' phone records in the fight against terrorism.
Critics called the program invasive and indiscriminate.
But the White House and National Security experts in Congress had lobbied hard to keep it going.
