Commuters Donate To Md. Food Bank In Owings Mills
OWINGS MILLS, Md. (WJZ) ―The Maryland Food Bank needs your help and they got some from commuters Tuesday morning in Owings Mills.
Ron Matz has more on a partnership that's helping to feed the hungry in the Baltimore metropolitan area.
The sun is up and the coffees hot as commuters in Owings Mills are digging deep for a good cause.
"Come on and make a donation to the Maryland Food Bank," said one worker.
"It's the third year that Dunkin' Donuts and the MTA have joined forces to collect cans and donations to help out the Maryland Food Bank. We've had a great response this morning from the commuters coming in. Our donations have been down somewhat. We need all the donations we can get right now. We're just two weeks out until Thanksgiving and every little bit helps and we're really asking people to join forces and help out," said Mandy Deboy, Maryland Food Bank.
It's the third year Dunkin' Donuts and the Maryland Transit Administration are joining hands to help others.
"We're doing a food drive for the Maryland Food Bank. It's a way for us to be a good neighbor in the community. We've been partnering with the food bank for three years. We do it a couple of times a year. It's just our way to help them keep their supplies of food up," said Stacey Carroll, Dunkin' Donuts.
And the community is responding.
"I brought over some canned vegetables, powdered milk, peanut butter and some canned fruit. It makes me feel wonderful. There are a lot of people who are struggling and it's our obligation to help and do something about that so I felt great doing it," said Alexia Clifton.
People are not only bringing canned goods, they're bringing cash.
"One dollar can actually process three pounds of food, so it definitely goes a long way. For every dollar, three pounds of food just remember that," said Deboy.
Commuters are remembering the needy at holiday time.
"I brought some canned goods and pasta. I want to make sure that everybody eats well this year. It makes me feel really good. You want to help others in this tough economic situation," said May Hill, commuter.
