Collective Bargaining Bill Gets Hearing
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- A measure backed by Gov. Martin O'Malley to allow independent home health care providers to engage in collective bargaining activities with state agencies is coming before a House committee.
The House Appropriations Committee is holding a hearing on the legislation on Tuesday.
The bill provides that there may be only one bargaining unit for the providers. It also authorizes providers to designate an exclusive representative.
O'Malley, a Democrat, is seeking to build on collective bargaining changes he has initiated in past years.
Last year, the O'Malley administration successfully pushed through a bill granting collective bargaining rights for day care providers who contract with the state.
