Coast Guard Cutter To Visit Baltimore's Inner Harbor
BALTIMORE (AP) -- The Coast Guard Cutter Eagle will be docking in Baltimore's Inner Harbor this weekend.
The visit marks the end of the fall training cruise for the tall ship. The Coast Guard says the Eagle will be open for tours on Friday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., and on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The 295-foot long ship is the only active square-rigger in U.S. government service and the largest tall ship.
The Coast Guard says the ship was built in 1936 in Hamburg, Germany and originally named the Horst Wessel by the German navy. The square-rigger was taken by the United States as a war reparation following World War II.
