C&O Canal Plans Tourist Boat In Williamsport
WILLIAMSPORT, Md. (AP) -- The National Park Service says it's launching a tourist boat this spring in the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park at Williamsport.
Ranger Curt Gaul says the boat will seat 15 to 18 people. He says it will resemble launches used as work and recreational vessels in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
Gaul says the boat must be tested before public rides are offered. He says he doesn't know when ticket sales will begin.
The park service has offered mule-drawn boat rides for decades at the canal's eastern terminus in Washington's Georgetown neighborhood.
The canal and its towpath parallel the Potomac River for nearly 185 miles from Washington to Cumberland.
