C&O Canal Official Says Flooding Damaged Park
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- The superintendent of the Chesapeake & Ohio National Historical Park says last week's flooding damaged parts of the towpath and some camping and picnic areas along the Potomac River from Cumberland to Washington, D.C.
Kevin Brandt said Monday that the park staff is assessing the situation.
Brandt says visitors may find eroded towpath surfaces, debris and closed restrooms. He urged visitors to be patient while repairs are made.
Heavy rain last week caused minor flooding along the Potomac and minor-to-moderate flooding along some major tributaries.
