Clothes Offered For A Steal At Annual Best Dressed Sale To Benefit Hopkins
BALTIMORE (WJZ)—It's one of Baltimore's biggest and best clothing sales of the year, and it starts Thursday night.
Ron Matz says there are bargains galore at the best dressed sale, which benefits Johns Hopkins Hospital.
"Last year, in three and a half days of selling, we netted over $190,000 that we put right back into Johns Hopkins for patient care, and it's just wonderful," said Helen Passano, Best Dressed Sale co-chair.
It's a bargain hunter's paradise for men and women. It's the annual Best Dressed Sale at Evergreen sponsored by the women's board of Johns Hopkins Hospital. There are more clothes and accessories than you can imagine.
"We have over 90 racks of wonderful men's and women's clothing. A lot of it is new. The donations from the community have been incredible," Passano said.
Hundreds of men's ties just $5 each, and there are fur coats, jewelry, women's coats, shoes, wedding gowns and vintage wear too.
"It's a mammoth undertaking, but it's for a terrific cause. Johns Hopkins Hospital benefits immensely from the extras we're able to give them," said Mona Miller, Best Dressed Sale co-chair.
Miller says it's a community effort.
"In addition to our 55 board members, we have community volunteers who come in with us every year and sort through the clothes and help us price everything," she said. "It's really a volunteer effort which keeps our overhead to a minimum which means we have more money to give back to the hospital."
Thursday night is the preview party.
"You pay to get in, to get first dibs on everything," Passano said. "It's $45 online, $55 at the door. We have refreshments, open bar and food."
The clothing is donated by local businesses.
"It's sort of the ultimate recycling job. We take all of the used clothing people have so generously donated to us and we plow it back into the Hopkins community, and we feel very good about that effort," said Dee Bosley, president of Johns Hopkins women's board.
Last year's sale raised nearly $200,000. So come shop til you drop and help others.
"We're open to the public Friday, Saturday and Sunday," Passano said. "There's free parking and free entrance. I promise if you come in here you won't go home empty handed."
