Rep. Cummings Endorses Hillary Clinton As She Campaigns In Baltimore

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Election 2016 has kicked into high gear in Maryland with a visit from Hillary Clinton. The presidential hopeful held a rally in Port Covington.

Amy Yensi has more on which Maryland leaders are endorsing her.

We haven't even had the primary but during Clinton's campaign stop, we learned some leaders have already made their choice.

Hillary Clinton got a warm reception from supporters in Baltimore. The presidential candidate spoke to Maryland voters at a campaign stop in Port Covington.

"I will direct hundreds of billions of dollars in new investments to places like west and east Baltimore," Clinton said.

Supporters packed City Garage Sunday to see Clinton up close.

"We're so excited to have Hillary here in Baltimore," said Mike Eaves. "Go Hillary!"

"I'm really excited. She will be the next president of the United States," said George Gambichler.

Fellow Democrats Senators Barbara Mikulski and Ben Cardin and Representative Elijah Cummings were at Clinton's side. All three Maryland leaders are backing Clinton.

"I am endorsing Hillary Clinton for president," Cummings said.

In addition to bashing her GOP rivals Donald Trump and Ted Cruz, Hillary Clinton took a jab at another Republican leader---Governor Larry Hogan.

"I think the red line here in Baltimore should have been completed," she said.

Clinton is the first presidential candidate to visit Maryland this campaign season.

"It shows she cares about all 50 states," said Melissa Dirks.

While some party leaders say she should get the nomination...

"She is ready to lead America forward," Cardin said.

"We've got to have a blow out for Hillary," Mikulski said.

Democratic voters will have the final say.

Rep. Elijah Cummings thanked Bernie Sanders for the issues he has brought to the forefront during his campaign but said he believes Hillary can get the job done.
