Cleanup Continues A Week After Train Derailment
ROSEDALE, Md. (WJZ) -- One week later, businesses are still trying to clean up after a huge explosion following a train collision with a truck in Baltimore County.
Mike Hellgren has the latest on the condition of the truck driver.
One week after the explosion that rocked an industrial area of Rosedale, business and homeowners are still cleaning up.
"It was pretty crazy," said homeowner Donna Lego.
It was last Tuesday afternoon when a Mack truck driven by John Alban Jr. collided with a CSX train. The train derailed and the chemicals inside some of the cars exploded.
Alban is now out of the hospital and federal and state investigators are doing a comprehensive safety review of his company.
"He's a good man; he serves the community," said a neighbor.
"We're doing it as a coordinated effort," said Maryland State Police Captain Norman Dofflemeyer.
Trains are now running again along the tracks while the NTSB completes a comprehensive investigation into what went wrong--including whether there should be more safeguards at the crossing, where there was a stop sign.
"To be here a week later and I know everybody's OK. This building is coming back together. It'll come back," said a nearby business owner.
Investigators recovered video from the train itself, which will be critical in the ongoing investigation.
Crews have repaired $120,000 in damage to the tracks, which reopened to trains late last week.
Environmental clean-up on the scene continues.
