Westminster Halts Church Construction Attached To Home
WESTMINSTER, Md. (AP) -- The city of Westminster is halting construction of a church in one-half of a duplex in a residential area.
Interim planning and zoning director Steve Horn tells the Carroll County Times that he made a mistake when he approved the plans of the Holy Apostles Charismatic Episcopal Church.
The owners of the other half of the building say they learned of the plan only last month.
The church broke ground last week to expand the three-bedroom unit into a 60-seat worship center.
The congregation currently meets in a building nearby. The Rev. Jim Ball says the church bought the duplex unit in 2004 because it couldn't afford to expand at its current location.
The city promises a public hearing if the church reapplies to expand the duplex unit.
