Cigarette Blamed For Md. Fire That Displaced 29

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Investigators say a discarded cigarette butt caused a fire that displaced the occupants of 12 apartments in Frederick.

The Frederick County fire marshal's office estimates damage at $600,000 from the blaze Thursday afternoon on Heather Ridge Drive.

Investigators say a burning cigarette tossed from a second-floor balcony started the fire that spread to the second and third floors and attic of the three-story building.
