Christie Looks Beyond Trump Gaze, Gets Back To Business
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is putting a much-snickered-at Donald Trump campaign appearance and a few politically bruising days at home behind him since bowing out of the Republican presidential primary race.
But it's unclear how successful he can be.
The state's two largest newspaper companies have called for him to resign, and less than a third of New Jersey residents say they still support him.
Christie on Thursday ribbed what he called "armchair psychiatrists" who mocked him over his gaze on Super Tuesday as he stood behind Trump. He rejected suggestions from New Jersey newspapers to step down and told his state's nearly 9 million residents that he's getting back to work.
He says residents will notice and he'll do better.
