Cecil County Authorities Charge 2 Doctors With Murder
ELKTON, Md. (WJZ)-- Cecil County Police have charged two doctors with murder on Wednesday.
Dr. Steven Chase Brigham of Voorhees, N.J., faces five counts each of first- and second-degree murder and one count of conspiracy to murder in the first degree. Dr. Nicola Irene Riley of Salt Lake City, Utah, faces one count of first- and second-degree murder and conspiracy to murder.
Police say the charges come after Riley rushed an adult female to Union Hospital in Cecil County on Aug. 13 due to complications resulting from an abortion performed at 126 E. High Street in Elkton, where investigations revealed both Brigham and Riley were at the time of the procedure. The patient had driven from Voorhees, N.J. to Elkton to get an abortion.
Police searched the premises on Aug. 17 and found several fetuses in a freezer chest.
Brigham was arrested Wednesday in Camden, N.J. as a fugitive and is awaiting an extradition hearing.
Riley is being held at the Salt Lake City Jail and is also awaiting an extradition hearing.
