CBS Sportscaster Verne Lundquist Discusses The PGA Championship
CBS Sportscaster Verne Lundquist joined the Norris and Davis Show on Baltimore's 105-7 THE FAN Friday morning to discuss the PGA Championship. He begins by talking about Phil Mickelson, saying there are some mysteries in the game, one of which being the playing ability of Mickelson. He then transitions to talk about Tiger Woods and his ability to win tournaments. He tells that we have grown up believing that Woods is impervious to pressure, but we are finding out that he is. He believes that pressure on the weekends has weighed on Woods heavily for a while now, which is causing him to not be able to play as well.
When asked if he believes Tiger Woods is the best golfer ever, Lundquist thinks the entire debate is a generational thing. He believes that Jack Nicklaus is a better golfer overall, but thinks his own perception is tainted by his own background. He does say, however, that Woods is the most skilled golfer we have ever seen.
He then transitions to talk about Art Donovan and his memories of the man. He tells how Donovan was the essence of what the NFL stood for back in that time, and he was one of the better characters that the league has produced. While Lundquist never knew Donovan, he, along with many other people, knew about him and loved what he stood for.
