CBF: O'Malley's Agenda Good For Economy And Environment
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- The Chesapeake Bay Foundation say the governor's legislative agenda is good for the economy and the environment, but falls short on funding.
Alison Prost, the foundation's Maryland executive director, issued a statement Tuesday saying bills introduced by Gov. Martin O'Malley will sustain important efforts to restore the Chesapeake Bay and other waterways if approved by the General Assembly. Prost says legislation that would steer growth to existing communities that already have roads, sewers and other infrastructure will save money and improve communities while protecting the environment.
However, Prost says more money is needed than the additional $28 million in capital spending for storm water projects in the governor's budget. She called for an even bigger increase in the Bay Restoration Fund or requiring local communities to collect stormwater fees.
