Streets Reopen After Morning Bomb Threat At Carroll Co. Court Complex
WESTMINSTER, Md. (WJZ) -- Streets around courthouses in Carroll County have reopened after being closed when the buildings were evacuated following a bomb threat. The threat was deemed to be a hoax.
The Carroll County Sheriff's Office says circuit court officials received an anonymous telephone call around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. The caller claimed that an explosive device had been left in one of the court buildings.
The Circuit and District Court buildings were evacuated and later closed.
Traffic in the area, including Court Street, Greenwood Avenue and the surrounding alleyways, was stopped and detoured for nearly five hours while law enforcement personnel inspected the buildings.
Officials used explosive detection canine teams and X-ray equipment to inspect the buildings.
Both courts are expected to resume their regular schedule Wednesday.
