Caregiver Charged With Theft Extradited
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- A Lancaster, Pa., woman charged with illegally obtaining more than $100,000 while working as a caregiver for an elderly Hagerstown woman has been extradited to Maryland.
The Washington County Sheriff's Office says 51-year-old Jackie Sue Carter was returned to Maryland on Thursday and released on $35,000 bond.
Investigators say Carter stole more than $33,000 from Betty Eshelman's bank account. They say she obtained another $70,000 from the 86-year-old woman's accounts through deception, intimidation or undue influence.
Police allege that Carter stole the money after Eshelman's husband died in January 2009.
