Cardin Cancels Ecosystem Address Due To Debt Vote
BALTIMORE (AP) -- Maryland Sen. Ben Cardin says he won't be able to speak before an ecosystems conference in Baltimore because of an expected vote in Washington on the raising the nation's debt ceiling.
Cardin had been scheduled to speak before the National Conference on Ecosystem Restoration on Monday. However, the
president and congressional leaders announced agreement Sunday night on legislation to avert a potentially devastating debt default and the Senate seems likely to vote first on the measure.
Cardin is the chairman of the Water and Wildlife Subcommittee of the Environment and Public Works Committee and has sponsored legislation for restoring the Chesapeake Bay, the Great Lakes, the Gulf of Mexico and other large water bodies.
The conference deals with state-of-the-art engineering, planning and policy for restoration of large-scale ecosystems.
