Vehicle Strikes House, Ruptures Gas Line
EDGEWOOD, Md. (WJZ) -- A vehicle leaves the road and ends up in the side of a house in Edgewood.
Captain Jeff Long reports it happened late Tuesday morning in the 1900-block of Brookside Drive.
When the car struck the left front corner of the townhouse, it ruptured a gas line.
Officials say natural gas started spewing, the car's engine was still running and a fire had started beneath the vehicle.
Deputies rescued the driver, 42-year-old Samuel O'Neill Dowling, and moved him to safety. Officials believe Dowling suffered a medical emergency as he was leaving his home, causing him to lose control of the vehicle.
He was taken to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center for treatment.
Nearby residents were also evacuated from the scene. No one was home at the time of the crash.
