California Man Dies After Hunting Accident In Maryland
THURMONT, Md. (AP) — A California man is dead after an apparent hunting accident in Maryland.
Candy Thomson, a spokeswoman for the Maryland Natural Resources Police, says investigators' preliminary conclusion was that the shooting was accidental. She says 32-year-old Vincent Cavallo of Altadena, California, either slipped or dropped his gun while he was hunting Saturday and the gun discharged in his face.
Thompson says Cavallo was hunting with an uncle on private land in the Thurmont area when the incident occurred. Thompson says the men had split up to hunt and that when Cavallo's uncle heard a shot he went to check on his nephew and found him wounded. Thompson says Cavallo had taken a firearms safety course.
Saturday was the opening day of this year's season for hunting deer with firearms.
