CAA Reprimands Towson For Late Arrival Against GMU
FAIRFAX, Va. (AP) -- The Colonial Athletic Association has reprimanded Towson's men's basketball team for missing tipoff following a massive snowstorm Wednesday.
Towson failed to arrive for its game Wednesday night at George Mason University in Fairfax. The game was first postponed from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and finally rescheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday.
Towson left at 3 p.m. Wednesday for the 70-mile drive to Fairfax and confronted the heart of a late afternoon snowstorm that snarled traffic across the region. The Tigers finally arrived at a hotel in nearby Manassas after 1 a.m. Thursday — an 11-hour drive.
CAA Commissioner Tom Yeager said Towson should have left earlier given the weather forecast. Towson officials said they thought a 3 p.m. departure was early enough but apologized to George Mason for the inconvenience.
