BWI Taxi Drivers Protest Concession Proposal
BALTIMORE (AP) -- Taxi drivers at BWI Marshall Airport aren't happy with the state considering a proposal that would award the airport's taxi concession to a Virginia-based company.
Drivers on Tuesday staged a protest, a day before the proposal was scheduled to be heard by the state Board of Public Works. The Dulles Airport Taxi Inc.'s $7.1 million bid is for a four-year concession contract. The drivers at the protest say they feared the company would reduce the number of owner-operated taxis at the airport.
The bid is about $1 million more than current concession holder BWI Taxi Management and it is for exclusive rights to pick up fares at BWI.
