Businesses Looking To Cash In On O's Success

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Game two of the playoff series with the Yankees is hours away. Tailgating is definitely underway. The postseason means a major pump for area businesses from bars to stores selling O's merchandise.

Meghan McCorkell has more.

Fans are all decked out, ready for the game.

"I'm a great fan. I love the O's. I've liked them since 2009," said Evan.

Fans like Evan are helping business boom in the Inner Harbor.

At a time when purple usually overpowers, orange has taken over in sports shops.

"Anything, really. Shirts, hoodies, hats," said a fan.

New O's gear arrives daily as orange and black is flying off the shelves. The Orioles playoff push provides an unexpected boom in business. Anything with the playoff logo does really well.

"This has been fantastic," said Nathaniel Scroggins.

The postseason also has ticket vendors working overtime.

"You get a whole new season--new enthusiasm, new revenue," said Steve Nickel.

Steve Nickel with Sports Tickets Unlimited says the calls immediately started coming in.

"We had people showing up at our door before we were open," Nickel said.

Tickets run around $100 apiece but the experience is priceless.

Many of the fans around Camden Yards Monday were from out of town. That's also good news for area hotels.
