Brown To Join White House Domestic Violence Forum
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Maryland Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown is expected join Vice President Joe Biden for a White House forum.
Brown is scheduled to appear with Biden and other senior officials Wednesday morning at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building to talk about the need to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act.
The 1994 law is up for reauthorization in Congress, but faces some Republican opposition.
Brown's cousin was killed by her estranged boyfriend in 2008 and the Democrat has since championed efforts to reduce domestic violence.
He has worked to introduce hospital-based domestic violence programs and legislation that allows judges to take guns away from abusers.
In 2012, the General Assembly also passed a bill to grant unemployment benefits to people who leave their jobs because of domestic violence.
