ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ) -- Devastating news from the scene of a nasty accident in Anne Arundel County. Three people have died in a chain-reaction crash--one of them a child. Officers were still investigating on Route 3 hours after it happened.
Meghan McCorkell spoke with police.
WJZ's media partner, the Baltimore Sun, reports the child was a 7-year-old girl.
It happened on Route 3 South, just south of Exit 97.
Eight vehicles were involved in the devastating crash.
Investigators say it was a vehicle traveling at highway speed around 55 miles an hour when it smashed into another car, causing a chain-reaction crash.
The accident happened at 5 p.m., the height of rush hour.
All three people who were killed were inside the same car. They have not been identified.
Investigators are doing the grisly work of investigating the crash. They say they owe the family a thorough investigation.
Investigators will work with the State's Attorney's Office to determine if any charges will be filed.
Six other people were taken to the hospital. Two of them were sent to Shock Trauma and four others to Baltimore Washington Medical Center.
The road was closed from 5 p.m. until around midnight Tuesday.
