BPD Officer Saves Dog Stranded On The Shoulder Of I-83
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A dog stranded next to busy traffic is saved thanks to a caring 911 caller and police officer.
Linh Bui reports on the rescue.
A heartbreaking sight: a 14-year-old shepherd mix, scared and alone on Interstate 83 as cars rushed past.
"The dog listened to me, but every time I attempted to grab the dog, he tried to run. So I didn't want to make him any more nervous because he was already scared and cold," said C.J. Martinez, Baltimore City Police Department.
Officer Martinez was the first to respond Thursday after someone called 911. He has a soft spot for animals.
Bui: "Are you a dog owner? A dog lover?"
Martinez: "I do own three dogs, and I consider them my kids; they're part of my family. And I don't see how anyone can do this to a dog."
Officers closed the road and were able to rescue the dog.
The dog was brought to BARCS. Although it didn't have any tags, it did have a microchip. That's how they were able to track down the owner.
Our media partner, The Baltimore Sun, reports the dog got out through a back fence and the owner is very happy to have her dog back.
Bui: "When you saw this poor scared dog, what was your feeling?"
Martinez: "I was rushing to get there as quick as possible because I know that if it were my dog, I would want someone to do the same."
The 911 caller said they saw the dog leaving a white vehicle. That is under investigation.
