Boy, 11, Among Rescuers Honored At Md. Emergency Medical Services Awards
BALTIMORE (WJZ)—In emergencies, the faster the response, the faster lives are saved.
Tuesday, Maryland's Emergency Medical Services Awards were given to first responders who rose to that challenge.
Nominated by peers for rescues performed in 2012, awards were also given to children like 11-year-old Nathan Haupt.
When his little sister's shirt caught fire, he forced her to stop, drop and roll.
"At one of my schools we always had firefighters come and they always told us what to do and taught us how," Haupt said.
The awards are Maryland's observance of EMS Week, an event honoring the nation's 750,000 EMS providers.
