Bowie Man Charged With Setting Fires At Home
BOWIE, Md. (AP) -- Prince George's County Fire investigators have charged a Bowie man with arson they say he started multiple fires inside his home.
Officials say firefighters called to a report of a house fire on Pewter Lane on Friday night learned from dispatchers that police were at the home for a possible domestic dispute, but soon secured the scene. The firefighters found smoke coming from the top floor and fire in the back of the home. No one was injured, but damage is estimated at $10,000.
Investigators say they believe 40-year-old Elijah Kareem Shahid used an ignitable liquid to start the fires. He was charged with arson, malicious burning and threat of arson and is being held at the Department of Correction in Upper Marlboro on a $15,000 bond.
