Boston Bombing Victim Gets VIP Treatment At Ravens Training Camp
OWINGS MILLS, Md. (WJZ) -- An inspirational meeting for the Baltimore Ravens and one of their biggest fans.
A local teacher who lost her leg in the Boston Marathon bombings got the VIP treatment at Ravens training camp this week.
Meghan McCorkell takes us inside the special practice.
A hero to so many meets her own heroes.
"It just means a lot that they would reach out to me and be so kind to me," Erika Brannock said.
Decked out in purple pride, Boston Marathon bombing victim, Erika Brannock, meets her favorite Super Bowl champion Ravens players at training camp, and even gets a special strategizing session with the coach.
"She's just a courageous person who's fighting like crazy to live a normal, great life," said Ravens Head Coach John Harbaugh.
Brannock was waiting for her mother to cross the finish line at the Boston Marathon when the explosions went off around her.
Brannock lost part of her leg, and spent more than two months in a Boston hospital. She's now back in Maryland, and meeting her favorite Maryland team.
"I mean, all the players have been wonderful. They're very kind and caring guys," she said.
Running back Ray Rice has taken that caring to a new level, auctioning off his own Jeep on eBay, with some of the proceeds going to the Erika Brannock Fund. The highest bid now--$43,000.
"If I can give something that I know somebody else will benefit, then I'm all in for it," Rice said.
It's not just the team that's given Brannock something. Players say the 29-year-old preschool teacher has given them inspiration.
"It's kind of weird because, you know, I look at them as role models. And, you know, kind of look to them for inspiration. It's kind of weird to know I would inspire them," said Brannock.
Brannock is such a huge Ravens fan, her entire preschool held a special Purple Friday in her honor when she was in the hospital.
The auction on Ray Rice's Jeep will close next Friday if you'd like to make a bid.
