Body Found In D.C. River Identified As Iraq Veteran From Md.
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A body found in the Anacostia River has been identified as an Iraq war veteran from Prince George's County.
The Washington Post reported the body of Arlester Jay was pulled from the river Monday.
Jay's family reported him missing in early March. His father, Ernest Jay Jr., said his son was addicted to drugs and alcohol and diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.
Earnest Jay also told the paper he thought his 36-year-old son was murdered. Police detectives were waiting for autopsy results that will determine how Jay died, but homicide officials were involved in the case.
Jay's family reported him missing March 10 after his sister went to her brother's apartment to help his recently estranged girlfriend move out. She said her brother was not there and his car was gone. His cell phone went to voicemail.
Prince George's County police took a missing person report on March 14. Jay was a unit supply specialist in the Army from May 2002 to March 2005.
He was assigned to Fort Lewis in Washington state.
