Bob Haynie: Tillman Wins (Again) On The Day Bedard Is Released
On February 9, 2008, the Baltimore Orioles traded starting pitcher Erik Bedard to the Seattle Mariners for five players. The key cog in that trade would be future two-time AL All-Star outfielder Adam Jones.
Another important piece to that deal was pitcher Chris Tillman.
Tuesday night at Camden Yards, Tillman tossed seven innings of one-hit baseball at the Chicago White Sox as the Orioles won 6-0.
With the win, Tillman improved to 7-2 on the season and lowered his ERA to 3.26.
Prior to 2012, the young righty had seven total career victories.
Earlier in the day on Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Pirates released a struggling pitcher from their starting rotation. That pitcher?
Erik Bedard.
Like the Orioles, the Pirates are trying to make the playoffs for the first time in a long time. Unfortunately, Bedard wasn't getting the job done and Pittsburgh had to make a move.
So while Bedard's career takes a step backwards, Tillman continues to provide the Birds with quality starts.
Oh, By the way. We have made a lot of the Orioles and their negative run differential.
Well, over their last 27 games, the Baltimore Orioles are 19-8 and have outscored their opponents by 24 runs.
Just something to think about as Labor Day approaches.
