Bob Haynie: The Orioles Are Seeing Stars
One of the benefits of having a good team is that you usually have good players. When you have good players, they tend to get a lot of attention.
The 2013 Baltimore Orioles are a good team. As you know, they have a few good players. And those players are getting plenty of attention is this year's All-Star voting.
If the voting ended today (6-17-13), four Orioles would be named as starters for the American League All-Star squad.
Chris Davis, who is having an MVP-caliber season, is the top vote-getter at first base. J.J. Hardy, who leads the AL in home runs for shortstops, is on top there.
In the outfield, Adam Jones and Nick Markakis currently rank first and third in the voting, respectively.
In addition. Matt Wieters is second to Minnesota's Joe Mauer at catcher and Manny Machado trails only Detriot's Miguel Cabrera at third base.
The recent resurgence of Jim Johnson, who is tied for the Major League lead in saves, makes him a strong candidate to represent the AL at Citi Field, as well.
The All-Star game will played on July 16th.
Expect to see a lot of black and orange in New York that night.
