Bob Haynie: Ravens Beat Saints To Finish Sweep Of NFC South
It's unofficial, but the Baltimore Ravens are champions of the NFC South. Justin Forsett rushed for 182 yards and two touchdowns as the Ravens knocked off the Saints 34-27 in New Orleans to improve to 7-4 on the season.
By beating the Saints, the Ravens also completed the season sweep of teams from the NFC South. With no team having more than four wins, that division is obviously not very strong. Thankfully, the Ravens treated those teams accordingly.
Baltimore started the carnage on September 28th by clobbering the Carolina Panthers 38-10 in Baltimore. Then, in back-to-back weeks, the Ravens destroyed the Bucs in Tampa (48-17) and the Falcons at M & T Bank Stadium (29-7).
Maybe, if they don't qualify for the playoffs in the AFC, the Ravens could lobby the NFL for a spot in the NFC postseason. Actually, the Cleveland Browns are 3-0 against the NFC South with a game at Carolina looming in December. Could two AFC North squads run the table?
Speaking of the AFC North, all four teams have seven wins. The Cincinnati Bengals, who tied the Panthers earlier in the season, hold a slight edge with a 7-3-1 slate. Keep in mind too, the Bengals have already swept the Ravens in 2014.
The Ravens return home this coming Sunday to face the San Diego Chargers. Like the Ravens, the Chargers are 7-4 and very much in the hunt for a spot in the playoffs. They have won two-straight, but they will be coming to Baltimore to face a team that is 4-1 at home.
The Chargers are 2-3 on the road.
No doubt about it, a big game for both teams.
Hopefully, the Ravens will treat San Diego like they treated every team in the NFC South.
