Bob Haynie: Orioles Win A Thriller

How about that Manny Machado? The Orioles 20-year-old third baseman blasted a two-out, three-run homer off Boston closer Joel Hanrahan to give Baltimore a dramatic 8-5 victory over the Red Sox.

Wednesday night's win at Fenway snapped a three-game losing streak and reminded us of that old Orioles Magic.

Chris Davis also blasted a home run as the Birds scored five runs in the ninth inning to overcome a 5-3 deficit.

Davis and Machado will get the heros credit. They should. But let's not overlook the two-out hit from Ryan Flaherty. Going into his last at bat, Flaherty had been 0 for 2013. On Wednesday night, he was 0-3 with three K's before his clutch single.

Things weren't all great for the Orioles. Jake Arrieta struggled -- again -- in his second start and Tommy Hunter gave us back-to-back bombs as the Red Sox took the lead.

But the Orioles are a resilient bunch and they fight until the last out.

Thanks to the exciting victory on Wednesday, Baltimore is no longer looking to just salvage the finale at Fenway. On Thursday, they have a chance to win the series.
