Bob Haynie: Rich Dubroff Talks Orioles Spring Training
Spring Training has arrived and Bob Haynie talks with CSN Baltimore's Rich Dubroff about the Orioles Off-Season activity.
Bob Haynie: Dubroff Interview
Dubroff calls the O's Off-Season 'uneventful'. With all the speculation of picking up Nick Swisher, Adam LaRoche, Billy Butler... still nothing happened. The Orioles management seemed to have a long term plan and they stuck to it. Payroll is 15% higher than last year due to player performance a season ago, putting them right near the middle of the MLB in payroll.
The Orioles want to keep the quality players they have, not go after big names with bigger pay checks. They would much rather give the guys they have the money than a Nick Swisher.
Reynolds and Andino are no longer on the team but they have plenty of players to move around. Rich was surprised they didn't try harder to keep Reynolds. They need to replace his power hitting and they hope Machado can step up and fill those shoes. Rich would be surprised if he hits 15 homeruns this season.
Brian Matusz was a bullpen pitcher last year, but they may bring him back in as a starter not just leave him as a left-handed specialist.
