Bob Haynie: College & Pro Football Picks
Another weekend of football picks is in the books and I had a better showing than I did the week before. Nothing to write home about, but better. I actually felt good about the picks because I feel I'm getting closer to having a monster week. As they say, however, close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.
When it was all said and done, I went 3-3.
In college, I had Maryland (-2.5) on the road against N.C. State. The Terps rewarded me by playing their best game in months as they spanked the Pack 41-21. Michigan and Ohio State played an exciting game in Ann Arbor on Saturday. The Buckeyes won the thriller 42-41 to remain unbeaten. Fortunately, the Wolverines (+16) covered. My final college game was the epic Iron Bowl between Alabama (-10.5) and Auburn. The Tigers won in dramatic fashion as they handed the Crimson Tide--and yours truly--the loss.
The NFL picks weren't as successful. My lone victor was the Colts (-4) who handled the Titans 22-14 to take command of the AFC South. The Bengals went to San Diego and took care of the Chargers (Even) 17-10 to strengthen their lead in the AFC North. In an exciting AFC West game, the Broncos held off the Chiefs in Kansas City 35-28. This was a very entertaining contest. Unfortunately, I had the Chiefs (+5.5).
My record stands at 39-37-2.
The quest for the perfect week continues.
