Bob Haynie: College & Pro Football Picks
After a glorious start to the 2013 season with my football picks, things have gone haywire for yours truly. For the past couple of weeks, I've been wallowing in mediocrity. Last weekend, mediocrity would have been a huge accomplishment.
I believe I have finally hit rock bottom.
1 and 5. Yep, one and fiver. And I needed a Hail Mary to get the one win.
I was 1-2 in college action. Auburn (-3) was the winner. After blowing a lead, the Tigers scored on a desperation touchdown pass to break Georgia's hearts 43-38. A week after beating Notre Dame, Pitt (+1) played host to North Carolina. The Tar Heels returned two punts for TD's to beat the Panthers 34-27. My other loser was Stanford (-3.5) who lost on a last-second FG to USC 20-17.
The NFL picks were embarrassing. Winless.
The Browns (+7) jumped out to an early lead against the Bengals. Unfortunately, Cleveland gave up 31 points in the second quarter and wound up getting spanked 41-20. The Lions (-1) went to Pittsburgh in first place in the NFC North. They left tied for first after losing to the Steelers 37-27. In Miami, the Chargers (Even) lost a tough one to the Dolphins 20-16.
My record now stands at 34-30-2.
The quest for the perfect week continues.
