Bob Haynie: College & Pro Football Picks
For the second straight week, my pigskin prognostications were unspectacular. Overtime games, crappy kickers, stagnant offenses and rain were all contributing factors as I had another mediocre weekend of football picking.
In college, Maryland did manage to hold on and beat Virginia at Byrd Stadium in a sloppy game. That's good news. The bad news, for me, is that they failed to win by more than (-7) points. Michigan (-2.5) looked like they were primed to defeat Penn State this past Saturday until they allowed the game-tying touchdown in the final minute of regulation. The Wolverines had some chances in OT, but their kicker missed a couple of field goals and they eventually lost outright in four OT's. My one winner in college was LSU (-7) who stymied Florida.
Things were better in the NFL as I went 2-1. The Lions (-1) pulled away from the Browns late to win on the road. In Dallas, the Cowboys (-5.5) got a boost from their special teams as they outlasted the Redskins 31-16. My loser was the Colts (Even) who were slapped around by the Chargers in San Diego.
So, another 3-3 yawn-fest for yours truly.
I'm still looking good overall, however.
24-10-2 isn't that bad.
The quest for the perfect week continues.
