Bob Haynie: College And Pro Football Picks
The experts always say when it comes to betting: " Go with your first instinct." That is advice that I should have followed last weekend when it came to my football picks. I lost two games because I did not go with my gut. I did some over-thinking and it cost me.
Because of this poor strategy, I suffered through yet another losing week. After being well over .500 for the first half of the football season, I am now in danger of finishing with a losing record. I am having a collapse reminiscent of the 1978 Boston Red Sox.
As December begins, I am now playing for pride.
My two reverse losers were in the college ranks. I really liked Oklahoma last Saturday. For some reason, I flipped to Kansas State (-5) who had been hot. Well, the Sooners cooled them off by winning on the road 41-31. I was also feeling Notre Dame who was playing host to BYU (-1). Since my wife went to BYU, I took the Cougars who lost 23-13. The college disaster was complete when LSU spanked Texas A&M (+5) 34-10. That's 0-3 folks.
I finally showed some signs of life with my NFL selections. I thought the Ravens (-3.5) were the lock of the week and they handled their business by silencing the Jets 19-3. The 49'ers (-7) needed a victory and the Redskins were just what they needed. San Francisco got that win 27-6. I would have had a perfect week if it wasn't for the Broncos (-1). Denver blew a 24-0 lead in losing to the Patriots in Foxboro in OT, 34-31.
After a 2-4 debacle, my record stands at 36-34-2.
The quest for the perfect week continues.
