Bob Haynie: College And Pro Football Picks
My midseason stink-fest continues when it comes to the football selections. After a promising start, I have struggled over the last few weeks. I can't put my finger on any one thing that has led to me selecting many more losers than winners.
Overconfidence perhaps? Maybe I'm letting my heart make the picks and not my head.
I don't know. Whatever the reason, after a 2-4 week, it's time to get back on the good foot.
In college, my lone victory came from Wake Forest (+24). The Deacons gave Miami all they could handle in losing a tough one, 24-21. UCLA (+23.5) was tied with Oregon at halftime. Unfortunately, for the Bruins, the Ducks exploded in the second half and won easily 42-14. Maryland (+16.5) fought hard against Clemson. Hard enough to cover the spread. Of course, I picked the Tigers who did manage to earn the 40-27 W.
My luck wasn't much better in the NFL. The Giants (+5) went to Philly and slapped around the punch-less Eagles, 15-7. There's the good news. The bad news is that I chose both the Chiefs (-9) and the Falcons (+1). The Chiefs didn't cover as they beat the Browns 23-17. The dud Falcons were drubbed by the Cardinals 27-13.
My current record is now 27-19-2.
The quest for the perfect week continues.
