Fishing Crew Catches, Releases Great White Shark Near Ocean City
OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) -- The crew of a fishing boat accidentally caught and released a great white shark off the coast of Ocean City.
Dustin Lorah, captain of the Over-Board, tells local media that the shark was caught Saturday about 11 miles off the coast. The crew estimated the shark to be about 7 feet long and 150 pounds in weight, and probably not yet fully grown.
The angler and crew took some pictures of the shark before releasing it back into the water. Lorah says the encounter was "out of the ordinary."
Capt. Mark Sampson, a contributor to The Daily Times of Salisbury and captain of the Fish Finder, says the fact a shark was caught near Ocean City doesn't mean there is an increase in shark population.
