BLOG: Why Can't The Fans Protest?
It's amazing that all 4 major leagues have collective bargaining agreements expiring and complain about some kind of financial strife. Yet, ticket prices and TV revenues have never been higher. So what gives? They can't fleece fans for even more in this tough economy. No one ever would have predicted people revolting in countries in the Middle East to overcome various forms of oppressive government, but they are doing it. Who would have imagined the kinds of protests in Wisconsin and other states? So why can't sports fans, with no threat of death, torture or job loss, stand up and fight for significantly lower costs? It would take a tremendous effort, but could you live without the NFL for year if, at the end of the day, tickets were half what they once were? Just look at the Middle East before you tell me it's impossible.
