BLOG: Weather Field Trip Day Is Coming Soon
It's hard to believe that we were in the 80s just two days ago! Yes, in case you forgot, we hit 86 degrees Wednesday. Now the clouds and rain have returned, trapping in the cool air. Temperatures have not gotten out of the 40s this afternoon. Not only is that nearly a 40 degree swing in two days, but it's nearly 20 degrees below the average of 67 degrees.
The rain and drizzle now overspreading Maryland is just the beginning of a storm that we will deal with for a few days. Although the most solid rain will move through overnight, the front itself will stall out right over the state this weekend. That does not mean this weekend will be a washout. What that means is that the front will occasionally give way to showers and maybe some thunderstorms. So there is the chance for a couple of showers or thunderstorms each day, but they are not going to be completely wet days.
This stalled front is not only going to be the reason for unsettled weather; it will divide some very warm air off to the south and chilly air off to the north. We will be right on the border. We will get a warm up during this time. Highs will be close to 70 tomorrow and then upper 70s/close to 80 on Sunday.
The stalled front will still be over us on Monday before pushing off to the north temporarily Tuesday. This will keep the warm air around. The reason the front will finally get some movement is because a new low pressure will move along it. That low will move our way midweek. It will give us another chance for showers and thunderstorms when it moves through. And it looks like we are still not getting a break from this stormy weather pattern. There are more storms lined up to come our way right into the following week.
ATTENTION TEACHERS AND STUDENTS:
Our fourth annual Weather Field Trip Day at Camden Yards is right around the corner. This year, it will be Thursday, May 26. If you are unfamiliar with the program, it's a day full of fun. We start out with an action, graphics-filled weather program on the field that features helpers like Nicole Sherry (head groundskeeper), Chris Strong from the National Weather Service and, of course, the Bird. Then, everyone takes a lunch break before enjoying an afternoon Orioles game.
