BLOG: The Snow Is Gone
One round of snow is gone, but another could be on the way. One thing's for certain...the cold air is locked in for a while.
We didn't get much, as expected. Generally, it was a coating to 1 or 1.5", except in Cecil County and the northern Eastern Shore where there was generally 2-3" of snow. Now, the large storm spinning over the Great Lakes that brought this snow is finally starting to edge eastward. There will still be some accumulating snow along the western slopes of Garrett and Allegany Counties, but it's over for the rest of us.
As the large low heads out to sea, our winds are really picking up. Expect winds to gust around 30 mph tonight, then maybe topping 40 mph tomorrow. At the same time, the cold air is going to stick around. Temperatures will drop into the teens overnight and only recover to barely freezing tomorrow. When you factor in the wind, it will feel about 10-15 degrees below the actual air temperatures. The wind will back off Monday, but the cold air will not. We will top out in the mid 30s, still about 5-8 degrees below normal. And that will set the stage for the next storm coming our way.
This next one is a different kind of storm than the last one. There are two different pieces to it that will merge into a larger, stronger storm just offshore - somewhere generally east of New Jersey and south of Long Island. And, the last storm came from the northwest where it just did not have a lot of moisture to work with, the southern piece of this storm will track along the Gulf Coast and pick up a lot more moisture before it moves our way. Actually, this storm is going to produce widespread snow and ice across the south before it even tries to move into the Mid-Atlantic.
Clouds will come in ahead of the storm Monday, then the chance for snow Tuesday into Wednesday. Right now, it looks like we will be in cold enough air for all snow for almost all of us (just have to watch the beaches for some possible mixing). Of course we will hammer out the details on this as we get closer, but it is looking more and more like we will get some accumulating snow out of this one.
Stay tuned...
