BLOG: The Orioles Have Been Spoilers Since '97
Over the last couple of weeks, the Baltimore Orioles have been facing potential playoff contenders with the hopes of playing spoiler.
The Tampa Bay Rays, Los Angeles Angels and Boston Red Sox have all felt the wrath of the Orioles as those teams try to secure a spot in the post-season.
Well, I feel your pain Tampa, L.A. and Boston.
The Orioles have been spoiling baseball for me since the end of the 1997 season. The Birds went wire-to-wire in '97 on their way to the ALCS. A fun ride it was that year.
They have not had a winning season since.
The managers, GM's and players have changed multiple times since that AL East winning campaign. Unfortunately, the losing has been constant.
The reasons for this decade plus of ineptitude are plenty. But I'm not trying to write War and Peace today.
All I know is that the Rays have shown that there is way to compete in a division that features the dreaded Red Sox and New York Yankees.
I don't want to hear excuses. I want to see winning baseball.
Step up Baltimore Orioles.
Stop spoiling my summers.
