BLOG: Rain Is Coming
The sun is out and the melting has resumed.
We did drop down to the teens overnight, forcing the untreated snowmelt to freeze up again. Now, with sunshine and temperatures topping out in the low 40s, the melting is underway again. There will be the threat of another refreeze as we go below freezing again tonight, but then more changes are coming our way for the second half of the week.
Clouds will take over again tomorrow as a new storm moves our way. This storm will move our way late tomorrow afternoon/evening with some rain, and then stay rain the entire time tomorrow night and Friday. There is the possibility that we could get over an inch of rain out of this storm, and maybe even a thunderstorm on Friday. In fact, a flood watch has already been posted for Garrett County Thursday night through Friday for the combination of heavy rain and snowmelt.
This storm will get out of here for the beginning of the weekend. Winds will pick up Friday night out of the west and bring in drier air Saturday. Sunshine will warm us up to the mid 40s, right around average. Then, another storm will quickly move back in again starting Sunday. Clouds will take over during the day, then rain will arrive later Sunday and continue through Monday. Again, this storm looks to be all rain. Even with the recent snow, we are still running below average for rainfall this month and year. We are down .66" for the month and still 1.47" for the year.
Overall, temperatures will run at or slightly above average during this forecast period. Just to keep things in perspective, the averages this weekend are high: 48 degrees and low: 28 degrees.
