BLOG: Ortiz, Gregg To Start Suspensions Monday
Both David Ortiz and Kevin Gregg will start their suspensions tonight at Camden Yards where the Orioles will host the Red Sox for the next three days. So if you're coming to the ballpark to see Big Papi and/or watch Gregg close... you won't.
O's manager Buck Showalter said "it is what it is" before the start of Monday night's game in response to losing his closer for the entire series.
Yesterday, Jim Johnson pitched 1 2/3 innings of relief so he could be available for closing duties since Gonzalez has pitched in three of the last four games. Showalter said Koji Uehara is not ruled out even though he has appeared in three straight games against the Cleveland Indians.
Luckily for the Red Sox, they have multiple options to DH, especially since Boston went 16 innings against the Rays last night in Tampa. The team arrived in Baltimore around 6 a.m. this morning. Jacoby Ellsbury will DH in place of Ortiz tonight and Josh Reddick takes over centerfield duties since Carl Crawford will be activated off the 15-Day DL before the start of Monday's game.
