BLOG: New Year's Eve Forecast
One system to deal with to start the Holiday weekend with another approaching Sunday night into Monday, but in both cases precipitation potential will be rather low. That said, chances of rainfall are higher today with a weak upper-level trough moving overhead. It looks like a few showers will be across the area through about midday, but beyond that things should dry out with breaks of sunshine later in the day.
New Year's Eve night looks good with clearing through the evening such that it's partly cloudy at worst as the clock strikes midnight. Temperatures overnight will be rather mild... low/mid 40s by the time the ball drops.
The first day of 2012 will begin on a sunny note with a shortwave ridge moving overhead. With a southwesterly flow ahead of an approaching cold front temperatures will push into the 50s once again across the area. Clouds will increase late in the day with skies mainly cloudy by sunset. A shower or two isn't out of the question with the frontal passage -- but the most significant impact with the front will be the arctic blast that follows in its' wake. This will not be felt so much on Monday as Tuesday, but Monday will be windy as the cold air begins to pour in.
