BLOG: Here Comes The Warmer Air...
It's been a cold winter so far. We were -4.1 degrees below average for December, which made it the 15th coldest December on record. Those records date back to 1872. January was another cold month, where we came in -2.1 degrees below average. So far this month, we are also running -2.1 degrees below average. But all of that started to change yesterday. We topped out at 45 degrees both yesterday and today. That is just above the average of 44 degrees. And this is just the beginning with even warmer air on the way.
The winds will pick up out of the southwest tomorrow, bringing in the warmer air. We are going to top out near 50 degrees tomorrow and then in the low 50s again on Monday. That is, before a cold front comes through Monday afternoon/evening. This front will just have some clouds and wind with it, but it will delay the warmup. Highs will go back down into the 40s again on Tuesday. However, even warmer air will come with the next wave Thursday and Friday. We are not only going to the 50s, but up to the low 60s for highs.
This is a huge change in the weather pattern that has been dominating the Mid-Atlantic for most of the last two months. It looks like we will stay on this side of things for a little while at least, but we do have to remember that it is still mid February. Stay tuned to see how things progress.
